Poof
Quit one, some, or all of your apps.
A free menu bar app for macOS. Open it and every app is already staged to quit — click the two or three you want to keep, then quit the rest. The button tells you how many are going.

Other utilities ask you to select what to close. Poof stages every app by default, so the only list you build is the short one you want to keep.

Quit All, safely
The button carries the count before you press it. Hold ⌥ and it turns red to force quit, warning that unsaved work will be lost.
Undo
“Reopen 11 Apps” stays in the menu for 15 seconds after a quit, or press ⌘Z. The apps reopen in the background, without stealing focus.
Keep Sets
Save a named set of apps to keep — “Work”, “Writing”. Pick one from the footer menu and everything else is staged in a single click.
Resource warnings
When an app holds over 90% CPU, or more than half your memory, for 90 seconds, a notice drops from the menu bar naming it, with a Quit button. Dismiss it and it stays quiet until that app relaunches.
Auto Quit
Quit apps you haven't used in hours, on a schedule you set. It skips the app in front of you, music players, anything busy, and anything marked Always Keep.
Per-app rules
Mark an app Always Keep or Always Quit and Poof applies it from then on.
Background apps
Helpers and agents live in a collapsible section, opened with ⌘B, and grouped by the app they belong to.
Search and sort
⌘F filters the list and scopes Quit All to what you can see. Sort by name, CPU, or memory.
Keyboard control
Arrows to move, Space to keep, ⌘⌫ to quit. Global hotkeys for Activate, Quit All, and Force Quit All, off until you turn them on.
Extras
Relaunch a single app from its row, close all Finder windows, or empty the Trash. Poof can start with the Mac, with an optional sound when a quit finishes.
Nothing leaves your Mac.
Poof makes a single network request, to check for a new version. It has no analytics and no accounts.
Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without warnings.
Quitting other applications requires access the App Store sandbox does not permit, so Poof is distributed directly.
There is no trial period and no paid tier. The current version is the full version.
